How long have you been an artisan? How did your particular skillset develop over time?
I come from a long line of artists. My grandfather was a painter and my mother hand-crafted her own jewelry which was sold around the world. I have always been creatively driven and like to think outside the box. It helps being raised and surrounded by creative thinkers and influencers in my family.
Please describe your work / product.
I hand paint glass straws that are each one of a kind. Each straw is like a mini painting that you can drink from. All straws come with a cleaner but are conveniently dishwasher safe and reusable as well. Not only are they a piece of art at your fingertips, but they are my way of saving the planet by cutting out single-use plastic. I like to say we are saving the planet, and looking cute doing it! My straws are an accessory, almost like a purse or necklace.
Who are some of your favorite artisans / makers in the region? Who amongst your peers inspires your work?
I’m so inspired by so many artists in the area I can’t choose. Mostly I get inspiration and ideas from looking around at people, places, nature, and music.
How long have you been a business owner in WNY?
Art of Straw started in August 2018 as an idea over coffee with my husband.
How long have you been a part of Buffalo Women’s Gifts?
I have been to several Buffalo Women’s Gifts as a consumer, but this is my first time participating and I am so excited!
Where can people see / purchase your work year-round?
People can buy my custom straws or select existing straws at my website, Art of Straw.
